I think I will do it buffet style and if anyone asks if they can bring something I'll certainly ask them to!

So the biggest album in 1976 was Abba and the biggest number 1 was Dancing Queen - I can see some funky 70's music being played! I wish I'd had this organised months ago I could have made it dress up - how much fun would that have been! Ahhh well I'll have to wait until my 50th now :giggle:

I'm thinking a sit down dinner is probably a bit much to organise and seat as our garden has so few flat areas! So I'm thinking hot dogs for the kids then just lots of yummy nibbles / finger food / small plate and napkin type foods and I can just have lots of tables / chairs scattered around for those that want to sit down (I'm also thinking of getting people to bring picnic chairs if they have them). Then I want to have garden games scattered around as well.

What do you think? Finger food ideas?

Perfect. Little kebab things, quiche, cheese board, crates of fruit, crudités, dips. Simple is best, then you can actually enjoy your party without constantly worrying about catering!

That is what I'm thinking, I have 2 fridges so I can turn the 2nd one on and get lots of stuff prepped the day before - mum will be here too (although probably horribly jetlagged!). I'll try to make them as nice as possible - mmmmm satay skewers

I'm still slightly concerned with how the French guests will cope with not a full sit down meal :-? I guess it depends on numbers - I may still be able to do it but I think planning stuff that is easy to eat with a fork / nto at the table is the best way forward and can still be used if I end up being able to have enough tables.
I'm going to do a list and keep adding to it as I think of things / find recipes:

Satay Chicken skewers - my own recipe

Home made sausage rolls - maybe these Jamie Oliver ones

Although not sure if I can buy Terriaki sauce here so this version might be better: (Freeze and reheat)

Some mini quiches - so easy and quick

Greek courgette fritters don't even have to buy the courgettes for these and it says they reheat well, so can do it the day before! (Reheat)

I'm going to try to prep everything I can the week before and freeze and day before if I can (mum arrives on the Thursday so doubt I'll get anything done then and I'm not sure anything will keep well from Wednesday to Saturday (other than the satay sauce which is better after 2-3 days!).
