Memory foam Mattress Topper - or new Mattress?

Postby Velvetsteph » Sun Feb 06, 2011 9:15 pm

Our mattress has seen better days, it's a good 5years old now I'd guess and I recently discovered how comfy a new mattress can be as I had to sleep on the girls' floor and slept on their floor on the new unused mattress that will oneday be Grace's mattress (usually kept in a big plastic bag  ) and OMG I slept so well!

I slightly suspect we may need a new bedframe too as it's a soft-ish wood type one, one of the mid-range Argos jobbies and is at least 10years old now... It has also seen better days and may be key to comfort too...

BUT all this costs money...

So for the time being, which is better, new mattress or a Memory foam mattress topper?

I wouldn't buy a memory foam mattress as they're super expensive and also if/when we have more kiddies and you can't co-sleep on memory foam...

Or should I bite the bullet and buy a new frame, mattress AND topper? :?

We got a hollowfibre topper for our old bed but got an expensive one, about £75 i think which improved things hugely.still not as comfy as our brand new bed tho!

I'd bite the bullet and go for a new bed and mattress. We recently got a Layezee Beds Memory Kingsize Mattress, which is fab, so comfy, but  at not being able to co-sleep with memory foam, our mattress has an integral layer :-?

I'd go for a new bed and mattress too.

We have just ordered one and I cant wait for it to arrive (only another 4 weeks to wait  ) Once I had decided we needed a new bed, I knew I wouldn't be happy with a patch up job iykwim.

You shouldn't co sleep with any kind of mattress topper on. We have one built into our new matress but N has a cot which is beside our bed and he sleeps with his head in the cot and body on the bed!

I would go for new bed and mattress, we've recently had a new bed and matress from ikea and I love it, I wanted memory foam but as Noah often ends up in our bed we decided against, though I might invest in a topper

It's because there's a risk of them sinking down into the mattress and it blocking their airways...
Guess integral layer is different to a topper...

Aah, OK, thanks, well our mattress is super-firm so I dont have any concerns about that.
