If you have a look in the Yellow Pages you will see there might be some local companies that will bring samples to you for you to choose at home. They won't necessarily be the cheapest tho, and I wouldn't use a small business unless I knew something of their reputation/ attitude to complaints etc.

All Carpetrights fitters are independent so if you do end up using them it's worth getting a number as they will always fit cheaper themselves, regardless of where you buy the carpet/

I always go independent and local too. Ive always felt it to be very 'whatever you want, i just want to make a sale' in the big stores but when i've gone to independents they listen and genuinely know their stock and make good suggestions that suit our needs. We've done two houses with 2 separate firms and been happy with the results.

With 4 cats, 1 dog, a child and me being home all day our carpets get a lot of wear so need to work for us, i just dont trust the big chains :lookround:

Id love to go with local but that involves talking to people/visiting shops which isnt going to happen as I have noone to come with me!
I dont do phone calls, I dont do shops or strange places or strange people...I suffer quite severe anxiety attacks unless I have someone I know and trust with me and even then its difficult...hence why I really am looking to do it all online then its not a problem ;)

We used a carpet place that's behind Morrison's in Chorlton - it worked out loads cheaper than the quote we had from the chain we went to (don't remember which one, juat where it is). The only thing they didn't do was dispose of the old carpet so dh and a friend spent an evening choping and bagging up the old ones which we took to the tip (i was 8 months pg then so sat with my feet up while they worked!). Can't remember the name ofthe place atm (up for early morning feed) but I'm pretty sure they're in yellow pages, I think I googled for the address? Let me know if you want their number and I'll look it out for you  hope you get something sorted!

Edit: just read your last post properly- the guy in the shop wasn't pushy and gave us a quote on the measurements we gave him, dh was in for the guy that came for the proper measurements was ok and the fitter was fine too. They were recommended to us by the property manager of our building which helped us out. I'd think they aren't onlineable So may not be for you, though the shop was low key and straightforward. Good luck!
