I don't plan to HE, but am hugely intrigued by it. If we could afford it, I'd definitely be giving it consideration.
But regardless of anybody's views, I think your friend overstepped the mark in her views. If it was an abstract discussion about different education options, then fine, but she really shouldn't have made you feel like that.
