Construction Toys

Postby mudita » Sun Sep 11, 2011 9:15 am

Hi

Not totally a Home Ed question, but my son does not really enjoy lego, wooden blocks or stickle bricks. He will be 4 soon and I'd like to try another construction toy with him. He prefers Real to Plastic most time, and would be quite happy with my hammer and saw, but that is not totally safe yet! Any suggestions? Happy to even make something if it is simple as i have basic tools. I need something he can do himself some of the time as we have a 2 month old as well. I do plan to get him a junior tool set, but not yet as he is going through the 4 year old testosterone surge  and I don't want him flinging spanners around! I wondered if there were any home ed resources/ideas that might help.

Thanks!

I know this is plastic but have you tried Mobilo. Both my two will sit for hours with this and Toby has used it since he was about 3 or 4.

You can get lots of extra kits for it so if he does like it you can add to it.

The other one Toby liked was Technico which is good if they enjoy using tools.

I used to have a Brio set when I was a kid. It was a combination of wooden and plastic.

Meccano might be another option, or some of the different Lego ranges instead of the basic stuff.
