We finally lost our doggy yesterday. He has been battling leukaemia for a few months, and was fine and well while on antibiotics. His last course kept him well enough to make his last visit to the snow (which he loved) in the Alps in January - that's been an annual event for most of his life, and he loved it, so it was something we didn't want him to miss. But every time he finished a course of antibiotics, the paw infections started up again, and he was in pain and ill. He started going downhill again in the early hours of Saturday ( a week after his last course of antibiotics ended) and finally stopped eating on Sunday, so we said our good-byes to him at the vet yesterday. Enough is enough
But it's only his presence and his body which have gone, isn't it? His soul is still there in our hearts.
Sad, but glad he doesn't have to suffer any more, and that he never got to the old arthritic, incontinent stage. He was nearly 12, and had a happy life. You have to say goodbye sometime!
