Do I need cot bumpers?

Postby gilbertandmartha » Tue Dec 01, 2009 8:08 pm

Are they worth it? Lachlan and Riley are getting various limbs stuck in the bars, is this something they'll get the hang of pretty quickly, or will I be rescuing babies out of precarious situations for a while?

if you do get one, try to get one which goes all the way round the cot. but tbh, their legs n arms will still get thru underneath!
or you just put them in sleeping bags, thats what i do. no danger of limbs getting trapped then. hth x

Thanks - thats what I needed to hear. I hate buying things that won't be used. I have been popping them in a sleeping bag for their long lunchtime sleep, but their bags are heavy weight. I might buy some lightweight ones that will fit them next summer.

Thanks Sarah

I wouldn't bother if I was you, sleeping bags are a much better idea. Ben is a bit of a wriggler and can get himself into all sorts of positions and a bumper wouldn't help I am sure

bumpers can be dangerous, heard a few stories about babies suffacating after getting tangled in them. i would get a sleeping bag too, best things i ever bought!

I wouldn't be without one as it stops the dummy getting lost down the back of the cot...
I have an ikea one which is supposed to go all the way around the cot but to be honest I only have it around one side as the other side I'm less bothered about plus like her to see me...

Limbs still get stuck as she lifts her legs over the top of it (tis not very high) :giggle:

Ben never had one, just had sleeping bags and occasionally during a daytime nap (bags only used at night) a limb might be sticking through when he self settled but it never bothered him.
