'Its just a phase, its just a phase...'

That is what I am currently repeating to myself every night when Caitlin wakes up anytime between 2 and 4am for 2 hours. She's at the stage where she can pull her dummy out of her mouth but isn't able to pop it back in the right way round, so ends up frustrated and then drops it or throws it across her cot

I cannot wait for her to be able to pop it back in herself and keep it in until she's satisfied.
When can I expect this to happen? Joshua never had a dummy or thumb and Anna was able to control her thumb from about 5 weeks so I have no idea when she'll catch on.

oh i remember that stage so frustrating isnt it?! i think that went on for about a month with Jaden. didnt take him long to cotton on

I think mine were about 6 months or so when they got the hang of it

Molly learnt when she was about 5-6mths old

We ended up ditching the dummy at 6 months for that reason.

Zach wouldnt even entertain a dummy, i think thats why he wakes so much through the night!!

Isabelle never learned to put her dummy back in and never found her thumb so we ended up ditching the dummy at around 11months...

Grace I can't remember but it seemed early to me - she's been popping her dummy back in for ages now and I'll often find her with one she's found somewhere and take it off her but once it falls out at night she's not bothered about having it back in...


With the night wakings - Grace so far has never done this but Isabelle was a bu99er for it! Like you say all kids are different and it is just a phase
