LOs sharing a room

Thinking ahead to when we have another LO, we've started to think about sleeping arrangements. In theory it should be straightforward as we have 4 bedrooms, but we'd prefer not to put a LO in one of the attic bedrooms as the stairs are very steep, and I'd rather they weren't on a different floor to us. It's really handy having a study and guest room too, so would rather not lose either of those.

Jas is currently in a small room across from us, and ideally we'd put no. 2 in with her after 6-12 months. At the moment we're pretty strict about her using the room purely for sleeping, and while there's room for a single bed and cotbed, we wouldn't be able to get much/anything else in there.

Does anyone else have 2 LO's sharing a small room, and how does it work in practice? Do you find that they disturb each other, e.g. when teething? In the long term we'd move Jas upstairs, or more probably move house.

My 2 boys have always shared a bedroom, since DS2 was 11 weeks old, and we never had any problems :D

We have a similar issue - we have 5 bedrooms, but 2 are upstairs (where the boys bedroom now is) and I dont want to use the spare one up there for Evie or a littlie, the spare bedroom downstairs is my snug and I dont want to lose that, so Im planning on Evie sharing her bedroom too.

If the room is too small to fit anything other than a cot and cotbed in, then can you put wardrobes etc., in the guest room and keep the bedroom just for sleeping as you do now?

Thanks Sadie, our bedroom is really big so we can fit a wardrobe and drawers in there for the LOs :D

When we've finished having work done downstairs we're planning to move Grace in with Isabelle - would have done it sooner but not enough space!!

As far as the younger disturbing the older, apparently the thing to do is when you move younger one in you tell older one that they're not to worry if sibling cries in the night as you will come and sort it out so they don't need to be concerned about it... Or something similar I can't remember exactly...

My elder 2 share a room and my smaller two do too. They have since birth so its not been a problem for them. To be fair, my lot sleep like logs so nothing can wake them if they are tired

initially dd was in our room. then went into her own room age three months. then when on holiday dd and ds had to share. when we got back we decided just to have them in the same room. we found dd slept better when sharing. i like that no one is alone overnight. and when ds was away for a few days with my husband i think dd missed him.

they occassionally disturb each other, but not often. what i like is that when they wake in the morning, they squak at each other rather than calling for us.

We had two in together for quite a while and had no problems at all with it. If one woke they rarely woke the other, we could put lights on to clear up sick, calm crying, etc, etc and the other would sleep through. All 3 boys have their own rooms now though, two up a steep flight of stairs above our room. Our front room has a sofa bed and is our spare room.

Thanks all, that's reassuring. Jas will go upstairs eventually but I can't think of her using those stairs alone for another four years or so
