Something special uses Makaton, although some of their signs arent up to date as they have revised them to be "more culturally correct"

BSL structures their signs differently and signs every word in a sentance
eg "go to work i must"
whereas makaton signs how you speak
eg "i must go to work" though you migt not sign every word, depending on the signers understanding
for imi i would sign go and work

BSL is a recognised language whereas makaton isnt, it is a communication aid.

Most sure start centres run makaton classes

There's loads of BSL based baby sign language classes - but nurseries tend to use makaton rather than BSL.

The thing about signing though, especially with little ones, is that they (and you) can use any sign to mean anything, we substitute the word sweet for treat when signing, so she wouldn't automatically think she would get a sweet but a little snack. She always liked the cake sign though!
