@docmaggoo is an enabler.

I have a ball of beautiful yellow cotton and a crochet hook.

Can anyone point me to a good 'how to' that's helpful to beginners?

You tube! I'm on my phone so can't search for links, but actually watching (and pausing videos) was how I understood and figured it out!

Ditto - my sil showed me how to hold a hook and do a single crochet, the rest I did off you tube. Some of the women are a bit annoying so it is a bit hit and miss finding someone that you like! Sorry it has been a while so can't remember who I watched! I'd suggest a face / dish cloth first as you can relax and just do it, try different stitches if you feel brave and finish quickly so that you feel like you have got somewhere! Good luck and come and ask questions whenever you need to! :crochet: :crochet: :crochet: :crochet: :crochet: :crochet:

When I learnt I used youtube and I still use it now for new stitches.
Also a friend showed me how to hold the hook and yarn. Just remember to take it slow.
