Fudge?

Postby Twinkletoes » Sun Dec 18, 2011 5:35 pm

I usually bake a load of gifts, but I'm bored with it, so thought I'd try something different. Never made fudge before, so looking for something pretty simple! Does anybody have a tried and tested recipe they coukd share? I don't have a sugar thermometer, but I could borrow one if it was necessary.

I have tried a few different recipes now and all have been epic fails that wouldn't set ... I think the lack of sugar thermometer is the problem so I'd recommend getting or borrowing one.

its easy enough without one...you just need a small amount of cold water and drop some of the mixture in...assuming you need soft ball stage (116 degrees) you should then be able to pick it up from the bottom and roll into a (soft!) ball between your fingers. My sugar thermometer broke so Ive done all my fudge this year without.

I've made some today using a recipe from delicious magazine. I use a sugar thermometer but it did say drop some mixture into some cold water and it should form a soft ball when its ready.
