My daughter wasn't happy with the speed of her bath filling after daddy put the hot tap on at a trickle so he could grab a quick cuppa. She put the cold one on at full blast, and the first we knew was a few mins later when water started pouring through the kitchen ceiling.

The down lighters have water coming through them, and the ceiling is sagging a bit. The bathroom floor is buckling in one place.

We've mopped up the water, emptied the bath, and not sure what to do next?

Electrician? Let it dry out? Insurance? Help! I'm totally useless at these things.

do you have any home emergency insruance as part of your home cover? Could be worth checking. If not I'd let it dry out - do you have a dehumidifer you could put on? Then call your insurance people & see what they say.

Have mopped everything, wandered about looking up at the ceiling anxiously for a while, and decided the best immediate course of action is to have a HUGE slice of my mum's gingerbread while dh puts Orla The Destroyer to bed (she almost took out the iPad with a mug of tea earlier too.)

If you have a plasterboard ceiling and it is looking like it is sagging drill a very small hole at the centre of the wet bit to let the water out and use something flat against te ceiling like a board and prop it it flat. That way as it dries out it will dry flat and not sagged and all you need to do is patch the small hole and repaint

Best not use the lights while they are wet.

The light fittings seem to have acted like a seive, and so far as we can tell, the water is drained through. It was literally only a few mins the tap was running, so the volume if water that went through SHOULD have drained out by now. The dripping has slowed right down too.

We had a leaky pipe in the bathroom ages ago (under the floor so didn't know about it til the kitchen ceiling started sagging). Called a plumber and he just cut a slit into the ceiling - conveniently over the sink - then came back later to fix the pipe. Ceiling was OK once it dried out.

And I actually think a huge slice of gingerbreaaad is a very sensible thing to do. If it had have been me, I would have run around like a headless chicken making no sense and doing no good. At least you kept your head together!

We had a ceiling fall down on us after one of the boys pulled the plug in a baby bath. It just missed me and baby a couple of days later.

That sounds quite bad....

There's definitely drainage gaps around the lights (sob), and no drips. My fingers are crossed, plus I had more gingerbread for good measure.

Which was foolish, my heartburn is bad enough without adding ginger to it!
