Could rash be an allergy?

Postby kateb21 » Sat Jul 28, 2012 4:07 pm

Have used cloth on my son with no issues but am struggling with my little girl.

She seems to get a spotty rash in cloth. We went away and used disposables during that time. But the spotty rash has reappeared with the first cloth nappy. She is changed regularly and we use soap nuts. Using a mix of nappies, smartipants, bum genius, gro via, stretchies.

Any ideas? Hate the idea of disposables full time
Thanks

It's possible! It could either be one of the types of material nxt to her skin or the soap nuts? Think only way to tell would be a process of elimination x

Are your nappies fleece lined? That's a fairly common culprit. My son is allergic to fleece, so we use fitteds & wool and have no issues with soreness or rashes.

Are you using paper liners? DS2 got awful rashes that cleared within 24hrs of stopping use.

Thanks all, I think it's the microfiber as when we put in a fleece liner the rash limits itself to the edges if that makes sense!

What wool nappies can people recommend?

We use wool as a cover over fitted nappies made from natural materials. Limits rashes here.

You could change your inserts to bamboo. The wool referred to are wool covers such as soakers, longies etc. They are used over fitted nappies, which commonly are made from bamboo so avoids man made fibers.
