Low sodium diet/ bp advice

Postby ems101 » Thu Nov 15, 2012 1:40 pm

so my weight loss diet didnt work as it effected my milk, shucks! im not over weight sonot too bothered about that... but afte rmy preg induced hypertension my bp is still iffy. My GP says its hereditry, as my bmi is ok, i dont drink, smoke, have a poor diet, and im pretty active. Anyway as a preventative measure for future years, im zumba'ing twice a week and trying to zoop up my walking to get my pulse going a bit, I also want to lower my salt intake. I dont add it to anything, but have probably been over reliant on ready made foods over the last 6ms. so.... what foods in a normal diet should i be reducing/substituting?

anyone else in a similar situation? Any other helpful tips?

I was the same as you after both pregnancies. I was told no processed food and cook everything from scratch. Watch things like soy sauce, fish sauce, stock cubes as they are full of salt. Jars of pasta sauce are also full of salt. The British heart foundation have some good tips on their website for recipes. I never really used salt and always cooked from scratch anyway so I just changed for low salt stock (boullion one is good) etc hope that helps a bit

Also watch cereal as that's loaded with salt as well, things like Jordan's natural museli are ok. Suprisingly Quaker oats so simple has loads of salt in

I'm probably wrong but I heard that actually salt has less impact on bp than was previously thought. May be worth talking to a nutritionist. I have low bp so other end of the scale and no one really knows why some people have naturally higher / lower bp.
