Nappies may be fastened by a variety of means. They tend to be:
Aplix (also known as touchtape or hook and loop), which is like Velcro. It is very adjustable and very easy to use, but very easy for a baby to learn how to undo! Used on shaped, pocket and AIO/AI2 nappies.
Poppers have the advantage of being more difficult for a baby to undo, but are less adjustable than aplix – meaning that you might find nappies gape around legs for a while, while your baby is between popper sizes. Used on shaped, pocket and AIO/AI2 nappies.
Nappi nippas are the modern alternative to nappy pins. Having no aplix or popper fastenings on a nappy generally makes it cheaper, but also means there’s an extra step involved in putting a nappy on. Not always a good thing when you’re trying to get a nappy on a baby that’s just learned how to crawl! They may be used with flat, prefold and some shaped nappies.
