Confused about the powder advise

Postby MissFrodo » Tue Nov 12, 2013 1:21 pm

First of all what is bio and nonbio? Sorry for being blonde but just curious.

Overhere they say you need to wash nappies in Potion of Bambinex washing powder. Or something like Ecover, so a "natural" brand.

But I noticed lots of us are just washing in Persin/Ariel/etc. The big nasty stuff :giggle:

What's best to use?

Oh and seems in Finland the advise is to wash with liquid color washing stuff......

I use Bold 2in1.... 1/3 of a dose

I wouldn't use anything with optical brighteners....

I use supermarket bio powder. Im not really sure of the difference. Not sure if it has an optical brightener.... Whats the deal with that @sim?

I keep thinking i should use bold but its about 3 times the price of supermarket brand.

Bio uses enzymes as part of the cleaning process, non-bio doesn't.

Nappy manufacturers here say the same thing about using their own powder. In most of mainland Europe you don't have the option to buy non-bio as a standard powder, the non-bio is sold as woollen/delicates/hand wash.

Honestly I think it's a matter of personal choice which you prefer, I have used bio powder with all my nappies with no problems

I believe optical brighteners can damage the fibres (although I'm happy to be corrected).

Esther, I always use powder for nappies and clothes - it's better for your machine.

Yep as Joy said you don't get non-bio in Europe (or anywhere else in the world actually :giggle: ). I used OMO tablets (the powder sort) as they were great, they came in packs of 2 and I could break each into 2 before I opened it and that was a perfect 1/4 dose for my machine / water in France. I really missed them when I got back to Oz! Don't use liquid as it clogs up your machine and your nappies! Ariel would be fine, or any of your gentler more natural washing powders. You could always make your own like we have started to do!

Will use powder instead of the liquid I normally use and try a few brands to see what I like best thanks!
