Getting stressed out with crispy nappies!

Postby JennyPenny » Sun Mar 01, 2009 12:34 pm

Hello. Well the title says it all really! I want to line dry and not use the dryer but my nappies just won't stop going crispy! My Nappy Nation ones are completly unusable they are that hard. The rest are not too bad. They are not soft but they are usable.

I tried bold 2 in 1 with my last wash and it has helped a bit but not really. Might be able to get away with using the nappy nation ones now with a fleece liner or 2 to protect DDs skin but TBH it isn't really good enough long term.

I am thinkint about just selling the nappy nation ones to somebody with soft water or who wants to tumble dry, but I then probably wouldn't have enough nappies and don't have much money to spend on more, with the new baby due soon. Not sure the NN ones would sell for enough to buy some decent nappies!

I know it sounds silly but it is really getting to me! I really want to make a proper go at using cloth nappies long term but if I do, I need to find a solution to this! Preferably not tumble drying as that is just more energy and money!

Oh and I have tried vinegar too with no luck.

The best thing is to give them a blast in a dryer that should make them lovely and soft.

Try rubbing the nappies together vigourously, that softens them up :) You'd have to spend a little while doing it, but it should make them usable.

Or just use your drier for 10 mins at the end of them drying just to soften them.

WTS, you don't have to dry them in the dryer, but a 10 min blast will make a world of difference

I don't have a drier, and find the rubbing them together helps!
Good luck and don't give up

Will try the rubbing together bit. My tumble dryer is upstairs in the spare room and everything else is downstairs so it is a bit of a pain to tumble dry them for 10 mins. Do able, but makes it a chore, which is not how I want to see using washables if you see what I mean? I might try putting all my nappy nation nappies in a box for a couple of weeks and see if I can manage without them, as they are the ones that are the worst, but I do love the idea of the nappy, folds out etc so it dries really quick. If I can do without them though, I can sell the whole load and buy some other nappies that will be more suitable for our washing system.
