Washing cloth nappies...

Postby fluffycabbage » Sun Aug 23, 2009 5:40 pm

Whats the best way to wash cloth nappies? Ive heard some people talk about soapnuts, others say rinse then wash at 60, others say different things..... Which is best in your opinion? x

One of the mods will move this to the washing section

WE cold wash (no powder), 40 or occasionally 60 with a 1/3 of the recommended amount on the packet of powder) and a final rinse now. This works well but it takes ages lol

We used to just wash on 40 with powder and occasional rinse but i found i was stripping my nappies more often :-?

What I have always done is

cold prewash
60 degree wash (with about a tablespoon of big box powder)
extra rinse at the end

and just set the machine to do this all at once!

I used to use non bio powder, but switched to bio as Benjamin started reacting to it with rashes. I have never been brave enough to reduce the temp to 40 or lower as sometimes we have rashes and if they are fungal need the 60 to zap them.

In the past I used to put white vinegar in the fabric softener drawer and lavender, put stopped as it wasn't making a difference to me.

We do a cold rinse (just to make sure we get rid of any bits as Ben does very sloppy poos sorry tmi!) and then a 40 degree wash with one tablet of bio powder. Works well for us. I occasionally do an extra rinse in case of build up of detergent.

I do:

- cold rinse (to stop smell setting and rinse out anything nasty!)
- 60c with 70ml of Bold 2-in-1
- cold rinse (just to wash out all of the detergent and mean I have to strip less)

That's exactly what I do, except I set my machine to extra rinse at the end of almost every wash :)
