How to make nappies soft again?

Hi,
Can anyone advise on how I can make my bamboozles soft again? I'm in a hard water area and use ecover.
I dry in the airing cupboard which has kept them quite good but the ones I've had a while are getting harder - I think its now rubbing my dd's legs as she's getting red marks where the nappies do up over her legs and a stripe at the top of her tummy where the nappy sits - help!

leave them out in the rain!
Try a teaspoon of white vinegar in the wash.
Blast them for 10 mins in dryer when nearly dry.
Rub them together!

Finishing them off in the dryer works best, the rain is pretty good as well. What about changing powder to bold 2in1 as it has a softener in it. I didn't find ecover very good and it stinks and I could be imagining it but I "think" some one mentioned that it isn't great for washing nappies in.
Drying them in the airing cupboard will probably make them hard as well as it dries them quick with a warm dry heat iykwim!! xx

Teaspoon of Bicarb in the wash might help to.

Definately a blast in the tumble dryer if you can. We don't have one but i borrow my mum's about once a month now to make my nappies all yummy and soft again

I blast all my nappies in the dryer for half hour or so, if they are totaly dry then i chuck a damp cloth wetwipe in them and it seems to give them a bit of moisture back again

you could try making fleece liners to cover the whole area of the nappy - this will protect your DD's legs

Thanks for the suggestions, should have said I don't have a dryer!
I'll be trying the vinegar and may be the Bold 2in1, have to say I've never had a problem with the ecover, but the bottle does say 'new formulation' which is always a worry!
I'm intrigued by the rain - is that as in let them get soaked outside after washing and then dry them out?
