pre loved with ammonia stink....

Postby clarge » Tue Jul 20, 2010 10:52 am

bought a pre loved nappy & when pee'd in it stinks of ammonia. Have tried washing up liquid wash, have tried a dishwasher tablet..... so vinegar is next, can i do it in the machine? how much, where and on clean or dirty nappies? or should i do by hand on just the one nappy concerned?

Get a bowl big enough to fit the nappy in, fill it half with water half with vinegar and leave it to soak, preferably overnight.

Then put it in the wash on your normal wash cycle.

I'm assuming here that the nappy is a fitted and contains no PUL. If it contains PUL, it isn't a good idea to use vinegar on it.

No, I wouldn't worry about it TBH. It'll get washed afterwards and, as it's soaking, the vinegar will get into it properly.

If you decided to do it in the machine, which is better if you have a load to strip, you are better washing it first as it makes sure the nappies are soaking wet before the vinegar gets in there - if that makes sense?
