Interesting home made washing powder

I just found this on this site-

Laundry Washing Powder

½ Cup (approx 110g) Washing Soda
1 Cup (approx 110g) finely grated pure Soap
½ Cup (approx 110g) Salt
½ Cup (approx 110g) Borax Substitute
½ Cup (approx 60g) Bicarbonate of Soda

Mix all the ingredients together & store in an airtight container. Use 1 tbsp for a small load, 1 ½ for a medium load and 2 for a large load. Dissolve the mixture in a small amount of hot water and add to the dispenser. If using for hand washing, wear rubber gloves.

Not sure what to think Anyone ever tried making your own?

Ohh might be worth a try - washing powder/liquid costs a fortune, so providing that works, it'll be super cheap!!!

Im sure that I have read before that Ems makes her own washing powder (i think )

yup I posted somewhere about it.. but I cant find it!!! LOL its got a picture of my blender in use .. lol grating the soap ehhehe

yup Still make it.. you know the green rock washing powder ( name?) everyone keeps going on about, all it is is sodium cabonate and sodium percarbonate.. main two ingredients.. the rest is water softeners, and a few other..bit and bobs.

hehehheehe crossed posts LOL Yup I don't use fairy alot for detergent..I use the pure soap, the fairy its like my aggressive wash. I actually tend to use washballs for the majority of the washing and add a small amount of detergent if I know it needs it. Or like if its the dog/bed towel wash 3 tbls of just detergent on 60!!! LOL One batch of detergent lasts us about 6 months atm.

Do you have the same horribly hard water that we have in Hove, or is it better out that way? I've considered making my own before or using washer balls, but always thought the water was too hideous so it'd never work. I've put it in the 'when i move back to aus' box in my head.
