Hi everyone,

I've been lurking about on here for days now before actually registering  !

Up til now I've been using cheapie disposables... which are actually not that cheap tbh! Decided to switch in the hopes that these will DEFINITELY be the last nappies I ever buy for my 15 month old... although I've got a bit addicted so they probably won't be really ;)

I think I'm getting the hang of the cloth nappy language, but I'm still not quite there on the washing front! It's so confusing!

Btw, I LOVE how there's a smiley for BLW. That's just made my day :)

I've got lots of questions! I'm so confused by washing my nappies.

First I washed them my normal way (soak them in napisan, then bung them in the machine on water plus @20, glob of liquid in the drum, napisan, comfort, vanish in the prewash if they were pooey) and they came out perfect! But I've read a few sites that say soaking ruins the absorbency so I stopped, then fabric conditioner damages them so I swapped it for vinegar, now I've been reading things about vinegar damaging them and my brain is frazzled.

Now I've no idea what to do! Can anyone explain what does what?

HI and welcome!

Have a look in this part of the forum for advice on washing nappies.
http://www.clothnappytree.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

When my son was in nappies (he's potty trained now) I didn't soak nappies at all. I dry pailed (tipped the solids down the loo). To wash I did a fast cold wash with no detergent then a 60 degree wash with a small amount of bold 2in1 powder and then an extra spin at the end to get as much water out as possible. This kept the nappies perfectly clean and fresh. Every few months I also did a strip wash (see the forum link above) on any nappies that had suspect absorbancy (usually his pocket nappies) or if his night nappies got whiffy - that was usually down to detergent build up from when DH did a few nappy washes in a row with too much powder!
