Hi, I'm new to cloth nappy tree, but it came highly recommended by a friend. I have 4 children, but have only started using cloth nappies for the latest addition. I'm really getting on well with them, but whenever I put more than one booster in my (admittedly really cheap) cloth nappies, then they leak within about half an hour! Is there any way round this problem, other than tightening the nappy more?

 hello and welcome. :cnthug:
What type of material are your inserts and boosters made of? Does it only happen when you add extra boosting?

Hello and welcome. You're in the right place to ask questions. tell us more about your system.

What kind of nappies? What kind of boosters? have you washed them? what kind of wraps?

We can soon point you in the right direction (or in other words get you to spend a whole lot more money that you thought possible on some cloth nappies :hohoho: ) (don't worry you don't have to spend a tonne, you'll just soon get addicted)

Ummm... lets see... they are pocket nappies made of PuL and a micro fibre lining. I think the boosters are bamboo... At least, some of them are. I have two sets of boosters; one set is micro fleece, and very absorbent, and shaped to fit inside the nappy better. The other is bamboo (or anti pil fleece) and quite bulky. it only happens with set no.2, or when I try to combine the two...... I think I may have answered my own question...... *blush* The nappies are cheapie nappies that I bought from a dodgy ebay place that doesnt seem to be there anymore, and the fabric has de-laminated, making the inside of the nappy looking like it's coated with cling film.

That said, they are still ok, but I'm not brave enough to use them at night yet.

Sorry, I missed some!

I am a bit sleep deprived at the mo :coffee: , my baby is only 15 weeks old, and he has a cold, so that means no sleep for me!

I have washed all the nappies and boosters. I have not used conditioner  !

What is the difference between a nappy and a wrap?

Microfleece would be used for liners and as a stay dry layer as its not absorbent, do you mean microfibre? Anti-pill fleece wouldn't work in a nappy so the second type is probably bamboo. Are you putting the mf on top of the bamboo or underneath?

In answer to your question a wrap is a PUL cover that you use over a fitted nappy. Some people prefer using the two part system as they can be more reliable than a pocket. Often with pockets you have to experiment with stuffing to see what works best for your child so may get leaks for a while.

I think I do mean micro fibre..... I generally put the micro fibre ones inside the nappy, and t'other ones on top, if I feel I'll need more absorbency. I try not to use set no.2 too much, just when i run out of set no.1.

That's possibly why you are getting leaks. Mf absorbs very quickly so needs to go on top of the bamboo. We don't get on with mf at all here as when it is saturated and compressed then it squishes liquid back out causing leaks. Its not great for heavy wetters either so you may find as your LO gets older you will need to boost or stop using it altogether. Not sure why the bamboo on their own would leak unless they are very thin inserts as bamboo is generally more absorbent than mf.

Re night time (when you're ready to try using cloth at night) its unlikely you'll be able to boost the pockets enough to last all night without affecting the fit. Some people with very light wetter can use pockets at night but most people prefer fitteds and a wrap or wool/fleece over the top.

Ok..

Are there types of fitteds that are better than others? is there a pattern readily available?, I'm quite handy with a needle, and have sourced some fabric which I think will make decent nappies at a really good price. Of course, its then down to trial and error, but it seems that it is anyway, so I'll have fun trying!
