Cloth Nappy Tree Forum

Just wondering if anyone has tried cavilon as a protective barrier when using nappies. My little one occasionally gets a bit red in our cloth nappies so I put her in disposables with cream to clear it up. ( I don't want to ruin my cloth and only takes a day to clear).
Cavilon is a spray which forms a waterproof layer on the skin which lasts for 24 hours. It dries instantly so was going to use it during nappy off time and hope it doesn't cause a build up on my cloth nappies.
Has anyone else used it and did it cause any problems with your nappies?

Sounds good-never used it but id deffo use a fleece liner and possibly a paper one too. Anything lasting that long might play havoc with the absorbancy of your nappies ;-)

I have used it at work to protect someone's G-tube site but never with cloth nappies at home. I actually use a thin layer of Metanium and just pop on a paper liner when I need to at home and haven't had any build up problems at all.

Cavilon may be fine as you don't need to re-apply for 24-48hrs so there is not much to build up on the nappies but my only concern would be that air is really the best healer and you would also be blocking that. Saying that, you could always try it and it may be just the right thing. HTHs.

we use cavilon for bad nappy rashes in the NICU. It's fab stuff! Although air is the best thing, cavilon does work wonders at repairing sore skin. I expect this would be fine with cloth nappies so long as you allow it to air dry before you put the nappy on. I'm be tempted to the a fleece liner as well though, just in case. Where do you buy it over the counter from and how much ones it cost?

how did you come across cavilon?
we are using it tp secure my newborn's ng tube to his face. it's useful because it's a barrier as well as providing a sticky surface on which the tube and micropore can stick. though for my newborn, who as excema, i don't rate cavilon that much as the ng tube doesn't stick well and keeps coming off his cheek...

apparently it is permeable to oxygen &water!!
I tend to use metanium v v thinly and fleece liner and haven't had a problem yet.

Ah....i recognise the packaging on the cream version actually. I have this somewhere in the house. If its what i think it is is smells really really nice im going to try and find it now as i didnt know it could be used for this x

We use it, always have on Tegan and also use it on the tiny two when they get teething related nappy rash!

We have boxes and boxes of the stuff lol it's AMAZING! And clears up super sore bums within a couple of applications then we switch to CJ's to soothe the remaining soreness away! Fail safe combination!
