EBay! Grr!

Postby Juli » Tue Nov 13, 2012 10:40 am

I thought eBay had decided to turn a blind eye to people selling used cloth nappies, as the policy not to allow them is clearly ridiculous. But then I've just had a listing removed, a day before it was due to finish. How annoying! I've just gone on the live help chat thing on eBay to register my annoyance at this unreasonable policy. Here are some of the things I said:

Vincent Jones
I also understand you feel that your listing was unfairly removed from the site under this policy.

samuel8402
No, I think it was fairly removed under this policy. I just think the policy is nonsense and should be changed. I understand you need to avoid people selling things like used underwear, but lumping used cloth nappies in with that is just silly and unreasonable.

Vincent Jones
Samuel, please understand that we do not allow used nappies, nappy wrapper/liner for hygiene concerns of community.

samuel8402
What hygiene concerns?

Are you suggesting anyone would ever sell unwashed cloth nappies? Or are you suggesting that washed cloth nappies are not hygienic. If so, I and all the other mums in the country that put washed cloth nappies on their babies every day take offence!

Vincent Jones
Samuel, I understand that you don't agree with eBay's used clothing policy, but I can assure you that we are committed to the continuous improvement of our website to make it both a fun and safe place to trade.
Vincent Jones
In your case, you may also send your valuable suggestion to "Sending Suggestions to eBay" page by copying the following link into a new browser window:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/newtoebay/suggest.html

So I went on that link and said basically what I said above and that I would like to see this policy changed in the future to allow used nappies to be listed.

I just wanted to put this on here in case anyone wanted to join me and also go on that link and complain as well. If enough of us complain they will change this ridiculous policy eventually.

I know what you mean! I wanted to buy old fashioned cloth nappies, but couldn't find any only to be told they won't list used ones. I have no problem with used ones, but cannot buy them. When I asked, they also told me it was a hygiene issue and that was the end of the discussion! Bad form, ebay.

Yes, they were, as there is no option to select used anyway. I've also sold some before without them getting deleted. I think it's just a case of sometimes they notice and sometimes they don't. Or maybe someone reported it. It hadn't happened to me for quite some time, which is why I assumed they'd decided to turn a blind eye.

I've had the same thing, 2 days ago. The auction ended, transaction went ahead and then I had the eBay email with instruction to refund the seller!
Gutted. I've sold on there previously with no problems. Guess someone reported me or they just 'noticed' :-(
Will happily join the club!

Me too :-(

The funny thing is that I've sold a lot (various types of used nappies snd wraps) in the last few weeks with no problems at all, and a few days ago they cancelled some auctions for wraps, (whilst leaving some other wraps still on, very very strange...)

I did try to email back to ask why but the return email address didn't work and I'd rather lost the will to live by this point.

Hiya, I've had babies in cloth for a while now as my eldest is 7 years old. When she was a tiny back in 2005 and I was excitedly buying my first stash, you COULD buy used nappies on ebay. Then they altered their policy in about 2007 or so... At the time I asked why and someone on a nappy forum somewhere claimed it was due to complaints and allegations that a) used nappies contain human waste therefore have hygeine issues (even when cleaned) and rather more outrageously that b) cloth nappies are a fetish item in some circles (!!!!!)

It was then alleged that these complaints had been made up by a then-very-prominent trader who sold NEW nappies on their ebay store and didn't want the competition. I don't lnow who this was or if the rumours had any truth, and that's all hearsay, y'understand, but the whole debate got ebay riled up and they put a ban on listigs that remains to this day. Anyone who sells used nappies there risks listing removal (if it gets through its just cos they didnt notice).

The last allegation I heard was that the trader spent hours every day reporting all the used listings they could find to increase their own trade. But that bit sounds rather conspiracy theory to me!

How's that for some five-year old gossip?!?!

I've just had this happen. Last day of two listings with bids on them. Not happy!

I only used ebay as I was selling a whole load of stuff on there at the same time. Should have just listed here in the first place!

ha that explains it, i was bidding on some weenotions and then they just disappeared, no explaination or anything, the same happened yeaterday when i was bidding on some other pockets that were used.
must be because of this policy thing.
bloomi rubbish, i couldnt care less if they are used or not!! if its the buyers choice to bid on a used item, knowing it has been soiled at some point in the past then why is that not ok??
madness!
