Hello and leaky nappies - help please!

Postby LizFoulston » Fri Nov 30, 2012 11:25 pm

Hi all,
This is my first post.
I have a set of FuzziBunz BTP nappies I recently started using with my 1 yr old and have been unable to prevent them from leaking round the legs. About to give up due to constant changing of clothes.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Liz

Fuzzibunz inserts are quite wide and are made of microfibre-have you tried using either slimmer inserts or boosting with something more absorbant such as bamboo or hemp. Where are they leaking? Wicking can happen with clothing is too close to the nappy and also microfibre can suffer from compression leakage i.e. it leaks when its squashed by sitting etc. Give your nappies a strip as well to remove excess detergent build up which can prevent full absorption xx

They leak around the legs - I'll see if I can try some other inserts. How do you strip wash?? (Sorry, really am a total newbie!)

I always had leaks with fuzzi bunz too. What helped was to add another cotton or hemp booster in with the one large MF one ( mf on top, booster underneath). I also used to put the nappy on dd and then hold both sides of the crotch area and push the insert in from the edge a little bit iyswim.
I also had to make sure I changed them really often. Try to have loose fitting clothes, no popper vests and no other material near the leg holes.
Also check that they are not gapping at the leg holes.
I hope it doesn't put you off, pockets can be hit and miss, tbh they were the least favourite nappy in my stash :(
Good luck

I have found that the Fuzzibunz Elite/BTP nappies have a fit more like a training pant and my little girl would leak out of them straight out the leg sometimes! They just don't seem to fit well in my experience. Also the minky inserts that came with the ones I bought from new are actually too wide to stuff into the nappy properly and lie flat, I don't know if this is a recurrent issue, but possibly a lot of Elite's were sold with inserts to fit Perfect size Fuzzibunz, which are wider.
On the otherhand, Fuzzibunz Perfect Size are, well, perfect! No leak issue there. :)

We had a similar problem with bum genius. Bamboo boosters under the microfibre helped as did ditching the leggings and tight vests and tights. Needless to say, this wardrobe restriction meant that we did not use them much as we could have. this time round we are using mostly fitteds which have NEVER leaked for us yet! hallelujah!!!

From looking around soda crystals with a little bio powder and 60 degree wash (check the nappy advice labels first as regards max temp) sounds like it works for people, and then repeated rinsing :)

@Liz strip wash is wash high temp with nothing at all to get build up of detergent out. using bio powder or soda crystals will not hnelp

if leaking at legs nappy is bad fit either get wrap for top that fits better or fasten tighter or diff ones xx
