Recommendations for new nappies to try on my 9 week old!

Postby bealos » Mon Mar 25, 2013 3:57 pm

Hello! Looking for some recommendations please to both spend my Real Nappies for London voucher on - and get some swaps and purchases from you lot!

I have quite a skinny baby (that's her on my avatar in an XS Bumgenius), nearly 10lbs at 9 weeks old (bless her!) and I really like two part nappies.

I cloth nappied my first in Tots Bots Fluffles and Motherease Airflows, but this time looking for a combination of natural fabrics, perhaps with added microfibre for extra absorbency. Also, this baby seems to be too skinny for Airflows - size S is really baggy round the waist.

So far I've been using cotton prefolds, Sandys S/XS and Kissaluvs Size 1s with Motherease Rikki XS/S and Onelife XS wraps, which has been working well apart from nights, when we've had a lot of leaks! Bamboo boosters seems to help. I've also got some XS & S sized Bumgenius AIOs, which tend to leak quite quickly in the day, and an aeroplane print Bambooty AIO in Medium which I quite like as an easy cute nappy (less leaks with this one too). I've been loaned some one size Flips which I might try for night time.

Any suggestions of things to try?

Green Panda nappies are great. We have a skinny 6 week oldand I like Blueberry mini coveralls/Blueberry coveralls as wraps. I find they fits his skinny little legs really well.
We've decided to stick with Bamboo terries for the time being as I can adapt the first to suit his skinny little bum.

Another vote for green pandas here. I am also loving a mama knows- they have an fb page and are all bamboo onesize. Not tried them on a weeny baby but at 6.50 each (on sale atm) you can't go wrong! We love ours :)

I've got a 3-week old and real easy xs are great! I'm wishing that I'd bought A LOT more. I have long and skinny babies and their containment is as good (if not better) than the old style thirsties wraps. I have heard that they do a super job overnight stuffed with bamboo or hemp. We don't use them over night as Loic is an over-enthusiastic pooper so I have to change very regularly. They are aio's though.

Can't give any two-parter recommendations as I'm just reusing all my two-parters from baby no 1. Old-style tots bots and little lambs with the velcro unpicked and the top folded down. Not exciting but does the job.

My little one is 12 weeks now, (not sure on weight, but he's not a chunk!) and we're using terry squares (cotton ones - Junior Joy and Bright Bots) plus quick dry bimbles and bumbles, boosted with hemp for night time with Nature Babies wraps (the ones with velcro across the front, and an adjustable rise so they fit really well).

Really like terry squares since we can make them fit him exactly and they dry super-fast too.

Bamboo terries seem to be popular. I think I've been using cotton prefolds with a nippa in the same way - we get through loads (and they're useful for general milk mopping). Only problem is 'containment', it's just not as marvellous as fitted nappies such as Sandys, so you end up having to change the wrap more frequently.

Wondering whether I buy some cute fitted nappies for this size, or to be more thrifty and jump up to the next size (seems to be from around 14 to 18 lbs, depending on style). How quickly do babies grow? At what age will my baby hit "14 to 18 lbs"? I can't remember from my first!

Reuben is 5 weeks and was weighed at 7lb1oz yesterday - I love greenpanda/OWW xs's with either a thirsties Xs wrap or blueberry mini coverall :D I also like monkeysnuggles newborn and blueberry bamboo newborn, though only have one of each of those!

When he gets a bit bigger I have started stashing some greenpandas/OWW's in both small and medium, some rainbow tots bots stretchies in size 1 and 2 and some easyfits :D

Enjoy x
