Nappies for newborn help?

Postby Toto10 » Wed Mar 27, 2013 8:05 am

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the best kind of nappies for a newborn.
I've used cloth with my toddler but started at 11 months.
I'm a fan of Ittis with my toddler and TB stretchys.
Is it best to buy specific newborn nappies for the best fit?
Thanks
:)

You'll need newborn nappies for the first few weeks really as size 1s and BTPs will be huge, especially if baby weighs less than 8lbs. I've only used WAHM nappies with my last two and we used Green Panda, Hollow Oak, Holdens Landing, Little Gumnut, Wee Notions and Dunk n Fluff newborn/XS nappies all under wool. For the others I liked bimbles, XS sandies and diddy diapers with XS wraps. (hadn't discovered pretty WAHM nappies then or wool!) If you want to use pockets/AIOs (I don't like them on newborns as I don't find them overly reliable TBH - we had a few small Ittis which were useless as the fit was so awful!) then people seem to like Lil' Joeys and Teenyfits.

I agree with Louise although I also suggest having a few terries/muslins in as the fit can be adapted to your little one. I was expecting a chunky baby as my first was stocky little monkey but despite weighing the same at birth, Oscar is a skinny little thing and none of the pocket nappies we had fit his skinny little legs so we're sticky with terries, bimbles, kissaluvs and nature babies loveables.

Oscar's first nappy was an xs green panda, the fit was amazing I love it.

If you like stretchies, the size 1's are good as they popper down, we are still using ours and ds is 6 months old. We also liked real easys. bg aio's were fab for our little girl but useless for our heavy wetting boy. grovia newborn, teenyfits and lil joeys again all worked for dd but only lasted an hour max on ds.

totsbots do a trial kit which is good. its half price with the code BTRIAL12. i actually ordered 3 as its not limited to one per household. they sent me coloured nappies as the white had run out (bonus) :)

I vote for real easy nappies too. Surprisingly, we also like mothercare smart nappies stuffed with a prefold. They're very small.

The bulk of my 'newborn nappies' are actually size ones (little lambs and old style tots bots). I unpicked the velcro and make them newborn sized by folding the top of the nappy down and using a nappy nipper to hold it all together.
