Nappies for the world's skinniest legs?

Postby wrenma » Wed Apr 17, 2013 12:59 pm

Hello! Just wondering if any of you lovely people have any recommendations for nappies for a skinny-legged toddler? My LO is 16 months and normal height but a heart condition is keeping her very skinny, particularly her thighs.

For the first year I used Motherease one sized, which were great, but then she started to need more absorbancy so in the last few months have been experimenting with fitted bamboo nappies (because we have hard water): totsbots bamboozles (old & new styles) and little lamb bamboo. But now we are having major containment issues - generally the wraps keep it in (motherease airflow) but it's very often poo down all down the legs and I once watched her wee straight out of the leg hole of the little lamb!

Any ideas? Would I get a tighter fit round the leg with just terry squares? I haven't tried any other types of nappy so any tips would be very welcome!
TIA x

Side snapping nappies will fit better than front fastening as you've got the two rows of snaps so waist and thigh can be adjusted seperately. I've never got on with front fastening nappies with any of my 4, side snaps give a much better fit. (We always get wing droop or leg gape!)

Riley is named Chicken Legs for a reason! but she was small with her skinniness so was still in size 1's and only just into size 2's.

But some great ones that fitted her were some of the old style swaddlebees both velour and AIo, like Louise said the side snapping ones.

Also bamboozles strechies were good with a natures baby wrap. because they are so stretchy you can really get the tabs to meet well in the middle which kind of gets maximum leg containment.

Ah side snaps - I never thought of that, thank you!

Mine have usually had chubby legs but I wonder if a wrap with gussets would help?
Thirsties, blueberry coveralls, nature babies or mother ease rikkis? I ve used prefolds pad folded which don t ' contain' yet the wraps always have..... They re not side snapping wraps though. Xxx

Thanks - yes we have had some success with rikki wraps when they stay on (she tends to undo velcro), maybe worth trying some other wraps! The other trouble with not getting a snug fit around the thighs is that the loose nappy rubs and leaves red marks which look a bit sore. I think I might give some Motherease sandys a try and maybe some swaddlebees too.

Yes also try dandies, and natures babies wraps are fantastic, they cone in snaps or Velcro and fit really well on skinny legs

We can't use Motherease wraps. I have a chunky toddler and they're too tight on him and a skinny 9 week old and they gape so badly at the legs. I swear by Blueberry wraps. The main size coverall fits both my boys really well.

Nappy wise, on my teeny, we're loving sidesnaps. Made by Amber fit well as do Green Pandas. I find Green Pandas more absorbant than MBA though. I also want to try some WeeNotions. I've got a Bottom Bumpers AIO one size coming so I'll let you know what that's like.
