20 month old growing out of my stash!?

Postby scubelle » Thu Oct 03, 2013 3:46 pm

Hi
I have a gorgeous big, sturdy, 20mo son - above 97th centile for height & weight. In the last few weeks he's suddenly started soaking through most of his nappys in record time. Plus several will no longer stay closed. My favs until recently were tots bots easy fit v2, but they're leaking in about 1-1.5hrs. At night he's wearing flips with organic bit folded 6 times & microfiber on top - bulky but effective. On his bumgenius & close pop-ins Velcro won't stay closed, think his thighs have just chunked up. My main prob is that bulky nappies won't fit in his clothes without rendering him incapacitated.

Any ideas or recommendations on what to do. Money is tight, but I'm bored of the extra washing load so any thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks
My preference are AIO's.

Hi

I had problems with the Velcro on our BG pockets by the time my eldest was about your DS' age, it stopped sticking properly and the tabs curled. I am about to replace it with poppers for DS2.

Are you using hemp for boosting? It's really slim and holds loads. Easy peasy hemp boosters are my favourite - cheap but effective.

It could be the Velcro. It means that my 4 BGs & 3 pop-ins are fairly useless. The pop-ins are soaking in no time anyway.
I have hemp boosters which I'm putting into tots bots instead of bamboo boosters, they are helping, but I need more nappies now that I'm 7 short!

You can get replacement tabs for BGs. I am picking off the Velcro and adding poppers as I had enough the first time round with DS figuring out how to undo it!

Could you boost your stash with some preloved from classifieds?
I personally prefer(ed) fitteds for my heavy wetters.

Thank you Sim, is it easy to add poppers? Where can I buy them? BGs are on 2nd child so may not be worth the effort, although apart from the Velcro they're grand, just not my favorite nappies.

I'm based in Ireland so postage can make 2nd hand stuff pricey unless it's local. I'm trying for no.3 so with some luck new nappies might be worth the expense.

Also what is a 'fitted' (scuse my ignorance)?

A fitted is an absorbent nappy that requires a separate cover (a PUL wrap, fleece or wool).

There is a tutorial for replacing with poppers here

My first DS was on that same centile for height and weight. I used Bumbles (nippa'd) with a ME Riki or Natures Babies cover. I now use the same Bumbles for night time on my second stuffed with a cotton pre fold and they work wonders.

Just for information, you can buy supersized terry squares (70 and 75cm / 24 and 27in square), which should fit even the biggest babies still in nappies here:

Might be interesting finding a wrap to fit over mind!

Thanks girls. I'll look into fitteds but have to say I love the ease of AIO. The more bits involved, the more work - making up nappy, hanging out etc...
