Vasaline on a newborn?

hello all, iv heard of putting a bit of vasaline on babys bum for the first poo will stop it sticking and easy to wipe off, can you do this this with cloth nappies as vasaline is a barrier?

Personally I wouldn't put vaseline on anyone, it's nasty stuff.
I'd think it would clog your nappies, but have no experience of it.

I'm not a fan either...I prefer to use lanolin on baby's bum if you want something similar but nicer

I've heard it too. There are alternatives but using cloth it would "clog" your nappies (making them repellant rather than absorbant). Tbh if you use cloth wipes or a warm flannel, the tar poo will come off quick enough

thankyou ladies, i wont be using that then! iv never used cloth from birth before so found cotton wool and warm water not great at getting the first poo's off, but if cloth wipes are better it should be ok. thankyou again

Cloth wipes get meconium off no bother at all. Cold rinse then 60 wash in the machine and it all came out the nappy no problem at all. No stains at all. Shame the same can't be said for BF poo! My nappies need some sunshine!
