I've said it before but, in my opinion, Implanon is contraceptive marmite: you'll love it or you'll hate it and you won't know which camp you're in unless you try it! It turns out I'm a lover! I had it in for 3 years with no problems. I soon got used to the feeling of it in my arm (I stopped noticing it very quickly), my periods stopped pretty much entirely and I didn't need to worry about forgetfulness (like with the pill I'm taking now) or sickness or taking antibiotics (as Implanon isn't affected). Yes, I did put on weight but that was because I was eating too much after getting married- I managed to loose 3st with the Implanon still in. No, it's not particularly pleasant having it in or out but it's not horrendous- especially not if you've had a baby. And as far as mental health goes, I think microgynon had a bigger affect on me.

I'd get another one without hesitation! Though that said, I've not opted for one just now as I don't want 3 years worth of contraception

I'm on my second implant and I love it. I've been on pills and patches previously and I was terrible ar remembering t take the pill/change the patch. So having an implant was a liberation for me. I get pmt but it's no worse than with any other contraception.

i had implanon in after i had my son in 2006 and had it taken out after 6 months. it gave me terrible mood swings and a constant heavy period. that saying ive now had 2 more kids & opted for the implant again. ive got nexplanon this time, which im not sure how different it is. im having some mood swings and have had spotting for 3 months, but its not heavy and not every day. i dont know if hormone levels, being aneamic or having depression cause problems with it. i suffered with all 3 of the above previously and am glad to say i dont now. i think try it and if you dont like it have it taken out. :). xxx

Thanks, I've decided i will give it a go. If it doesn't agree with me, then I will have it taken out. Got the prescription from the docs. Just need to make an appointment now to get it fitted.

Your replies have been useful thank you :)
