I was going to do that but decided on the easier and quicker option
after dropping something on the gelatin icing plate I made for the last cake and breaking it I didn't want any accidents this time!!

They're on 6" cake cards stuck to the tallest chocolate with buttercream. You can do as Anthea said above and make gelatin icing so it sets rock hard but I took the easy option today.
