What the heck is happening to my sewing machine

Postby gilbertandmartha » Fri Jan 04, 2013 6:48 pm

up until a few days ago it was all going well. Now I can't get the tension right and every time I sew it just gathers up you know like I can pull the thread and the material all bunches up.

Its like its just not sewing right.

First of all stay calm ;)

What machine do you use?
Try to do everything again, so put the bobbin in again, etc.
Sometimes that does the trick.
Or a bit of cleaning in the bobbin section, or a new needle, well tbh can be lots of things.

you see this is why I hate sewing, with knitting I just sit down and start and finish when I want. With flipping sewing it takes forever to get going then it all goes wrong, then you need a billion and one accessories :loopy:

My machine did this a couple of weeks ago. No matter what fiddling I did, it wouldn't sew, I checked and rechecked everything. Very frustrating. But then I just unthreaded and rethreaded it (back exactly the way I'd already checked it was several times) and it sewed perfectly.

Sewing machines have minds of their own, I'm convinced lol.

Are you using the correct size and type of needle for your fabric??

When I first started out I sent my machine back complaining that it was skipping stitches and puckering - it turned out that I was using the wrong type of needle (a universal instead of a stretch) and too finer needle as well!

common solutionns in order are

rethread even if looks same usually works including bobbin

if not check needle isnt slighlty bent or even blunt. if neither check is right size for your project

next check got right thread if it snaps a lot buy better quality (moon thread is cheap but fab quality!)

check no thread dust bits of material arent stuck in bobbin area

it is very rarely tension issue
