Making clothes without a sewing machine?

Postby Mumof5 » Mon Jul 15, 2013 5:08 pm

Is it possible? I'm not fantastic with a needle and thread, but I'm not the worst! I have a couple of WAHM made dresses for Dottie, I would love to be able to make some myself, but I don't have a sewing machine. Either that or point me in the direction of a machine for less than £30! :giggle:

You would probably struggle doing it all by hand - machine sewing is much more sturdy and likely to withstand the wear and tear that a toddler would bring on any clothing you made.

You can pick up new machines in John Lewis for £50 ish
So im sure you could find a second hand one for less.

Do you have any friends or relatives who would let you borrow theirs for a bit?

I bought a cheapy and its done me great for learning to sew properly and make some clothes, and carriers. It would be better than doing it by hand I think. what about craigslist? car boot?

Freecycle occasionally has sewing machines offered, worth a look.
