Knitting ideas for dummies

So I've only ever knitted one thing, well a pair of things technically. See photo. But I'd really like to knit a blanket for DD2 due in August. A few questions for you. A) am I punching WAY above my weight, B) does anyone have any idea where I can get a pattern from C) what can I do to make it quicker/easier? D) what do I need to knit a blanket? Am questing there's special needles. As I'm typing this, I'm becoming more convinced that I won't be able to do this.

Ravelry can be a good source of free patterns, but you need to sign up.

A long circular needle would be easiest for a blanket.

Choosing a pattern in Aran would knit up faster, but I prefer lighter yarn for a baby blanket so it is soft and light.

If you can make those shoes you can certainly make a blanket!

Can you crochet? Crochet blankets are fairly quick to make x

No can't crochet. Can't really knit, I taught myself using a pattern and you tube lol! Will have a look at the website you mentioned @sim.

I made this for dd http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Sophiebeth23/maxi-cosi-blanket circular needles are ace this was a really simple pattern and knits fast the pattern is free. You can do it!

ravelry is a fab resource for knitting and crochet there are lots of patterns on there suitable for a beginner.
