Converting dresses to skirts

I have a couple of dresses like the one above that I no longer wear. Would it be possible to convert them to skirts?

I was thinking of either
- cutting under the bust and using some of the extra length to fold over and insert elastic to make an elasticated waistband
- cut a bit lower and add an extra piece of jersey at the waist to make a yoga pants style waistband.

To be fair as I don't wear them anymore, it won't do any harm to try but what would you suggest?

I'd probably try the elastic option first. If you are clever you could even cut a strip from the waist to the bust , fold it over with some interfacing to make a nice flat waist band then just add a button and a zip at the back. The elastic would probably be far easier / quicker though and if that doesn't work go the jersey option! Let us know what you decide to do and how you go!

I went for the yoga waistband option:
