old tshirts are good for the absorbancy,
dont like hemp as its too stiff
dont use microfibre as although its fast absorbing, fluids can squish out of it
bamboo and flannel fine for absorbancy

poly velour and fleece good for the top

is your pul the cotton backed type? poly pul can tend to slip...

You might be surprised at how absorbant they are so i wouldnt go mad on the layers,
my lastest ones i made with one layer bamboo fleece, one smaller layer tshirt, one layer polo shirt cotton tshirt fabric,

if they are for night use you may want to make them more hour glass shape so the ends are bigger and maybe more layers.

use your cheaper materials for the first couple you make so you can get a shape you're happy with
