Sewing machine manuals. Add your links

Postby MrC » Sat Feb 20, 2010 1:07 pm

Not my usual type of activity admitedly, but I've notice quite a few people asking about where to get manuals for their sewing machines.

I thought it would be easy. After all you would assume that manufacturers would want to offer some kind of after sales service for the machines they have sold over the years. Well I couldn't have been more wrong! It appears that sewing machine manuals are extremely closely guarded by sewing machine manufacturers, so much so that the only way to get many of them is to pay for them at one of the many sewing machine manual websites that have sprung up to capitalize on this lack of support.

How hard is it to put together a PDF to keep your customers and prospective customers happy sewing machine making people?

So I thought I'd start this thread with a little of the information I found along the way, in the hope that it might help someone.

Manufacturer of the month:
Brother
who can be commended for having absolutely everything online (even the really really old ones):

ftp://ftp.brother.ca/MANUELS%20_%20MANUALS/English/SEWING_MACHINE/
go up a level and you'll get the knitting machine manuals too

Found the mother lode of Singer manuals:

http://parts.singerco.com/IPinstManuals/

I think that might be where your Singer page gets them from though, so not sure if there's any more there.

Is there a way to translate PDFs?
I've only found one manual online for my machine and it's in German I think :(

ETA: Ok, ignore me. I actually started looking through it, and it's got English in there too    Not great but better than nothing :giggle:

I just rang Janome to see if I could get a replacement manual and they are sending one free of charge! Lovely.
