Making OBV wipes?

Postby megansmummy » Tue Jun 07, 2011 1:16 pm

I NEED wipes, am desperate and spending a fortune on packs of disp wipes (seem to get through hundreds of them) I have 20 Weenotions but between K and D thats using most of them before i get chance to wash them! So iwas thinking of making some to try and keep costs down as a bit skint atm

Does OBV need sewing on the machine or can i just cut it?

You'll need to overlock/oversew the edges really, as it'll probably fray slightly. Could always use fleece, that's just easy to cut up and use.

You will need to overlock or T&T them.
Personally I hateeee using fleece as wipes as it just smears everywhere but its 'better' than disposables!
OBV is good backed with terry/sherpa, makes good wipes.

You can always just cut up some cheap flannels....

I have got a sewing machine but iv never switched it on  my mum threaded it all for me when she was here last but since then its not come out its box!! im scaaared!! :giggle:

I hate fleece wipes for poo but it would be a cheap way of bulking out the wipe stash i guess :D I need more fleece liners too so could order some and make both while im at it!! :wine:

I don't have an overlocker but just zigzag sew round the edges to minimise fraying. I hate sewing bv though and find it much easier using minkee. I make my wipes minkee one side and bamboo terry the other. They are very easy to make though.

Infact I even have a bag of OBV offcuts from ems (i bought the csp making kit and i know i wont ever get round to making them!) I think I might have a half meter cut of fleece from nappies by minki too...i might be able to do this without spending any money which would be even better!!

Mine are obv one side and an old terry dish towel the other, overlocked together. It's an easy thing so start with for a beginner, was the first thing I made with my machine.
