Sewing books - recommendations?

Postby Mareth » Tue Jul 05, 2011 8:04 am

I've been browsing The Book Depository (and then going to Amazon so have a peek inside  ) to try and find some good sewing books.
I think I'm going to buy the Bag-making Bible (http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Bag-Mak ... 0715336243), but I'd also like to get some books for housey accessories and also clothes.
I already have Kirsty's Homemade Home (Kirsty from Location, Location, Location), which is good for housey stuff but it's more an inspiration book tbh :-? I'd prefer more patterns and tutes rather than just inspiration.
'Making Children's Clothes' http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Making- ... 1906525798 looks lovely, but mostly girly :? Does anyone have it? Is it any good?
I'd really like some books with good patterns for boys' clothes (I dont' mind some girls' patterns as they'd be good for gifts, but want to make some nice things for Rhys)

Can anyone suggest any good books?

This is very nice with lots and lots of housey stuff, bags, etc etc, very good for giftmaking things.

I have this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/House-Proud-Cra ... 916&sr=8-1, worth a look for home stuff. Forget about Kirsty Allsop, she just pays other people to do i =t for her

Cath Kidston also does some sewing books that look good to me, you don't have to use the fabric if you don't like it

Thanks all. I think I'll take a list of all your suggestions into town at the weekend and have a look in a real book shop, then come home and buy them online

I've got the Making childrens clothes one. It is good, and there are a few boys things in there (a dressing gown, a shirt and some trousers off the top of my head) but it is mainly girly. They are releasing one with just boy's patterns in though  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sewing-Boys-Pro ... 91&sr=1-39
