Wool fleece for stuffing quilts question - Attn Shadow

Postby monsterm » Thu Aug 11, 2011 1:25 pm

I've been wanting to buy Amelie (well all of us really but Amelie is most pressing atm) an organic wool duvet. They are just way beyond our budget at the moment so I had a lightbulb moment at 3am that maybe I could make her one. Would it be a washed & carded fleece that you would use? I know you need 400g of wool to make a summer weight cot bed quilt. Is there a particular type of sheep fleece that would be best to use? Any recommendations where to buy? Am I totally crazy thinking I could do this?

I've no idea about quilts and the requirements for bedding. We have a wool duvet, from Baavet, tbh, I think you'd probably not pay much more than the Pram topper here http://www.baavet.co.uk/buy.html
I would probably buy the stuffing from World of Wool or Texere or somewhere like that.
