Are all cutting mats equal?

Postby Mareth » Mon Sep 05, 2011 9:10 am

I'm browsing amazon and have no idea whether I'm looking at the right type of cutting mat or not. Are the ones used for fabric different from those for paper?

Would this one be ok? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Q-Connect-KF011 ... 692&sr=8-1

Thanks

I've got one of those, they're self healing. They sell them in the Range too, but I think Ebay is cheapest from what I recall :D

I'm not sure about the paper ones but they all look the same.

There is a difference here - the ones from the craft shops cost over $70 for a large A2 mat and they cost $7 from the Reject Shop :hohoho: :hohoho: :hohoho:

Tell me about it Tory! DH looked at one in a craft shop at the weekend and it was about €45 for an A2. This A1 is only £20! Crazy prices!

I already have an A3 (I think) from my cardmaking days, but I need a bigger one for work.

It took me about 6-9 months to find the large A2 one in a cheap shop. I was going into Sam's warehouse ( a cheapy chain store with a craft section) every week for months as I'd seen them with ONE A3 one, didnt' get it and went back next day and it was gone :x  . Eventually they got them back in then a few months later I spotted and bought the huge one at the Reject shop and was so thrilled so really is worth looking around for the big ones in the cheapy shops, I am actually considering going and getting another so that I have a spare just in case you can't get them as cheap in France!

Thanks for asking Mareth. I was wondering the same myself. What about rotary cutters? Any recommendations?

I have an olfa - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Olfa-Rotary-C ... 1011wt_905 - is lovely to use. Might have to invest in a bigger one too.
