Tutorial for making felted balls?

Postby clevercuttlefish » Fri Sep 09, 2011 3:33 pm

Hi,

I'm looking for a tutorial to make felted balls/beads as I'm too tight to pay £20+ for the ones I want  There seems to be a lot of tutorials out there, does anyone have a tried and tested one they could share?

Are you trying to make tennis sized balls or necklace size beads?

I have made both but ages ago and I can't find the tutes I used atm but will try and add them to this reply later

For dryer balls, I think it was something like The Crunchy Parent on you tube.

For beads, I found winding i up small and using hot soapy water to roll around my hands, then agitating it on bamboo mat was the most fun

It's the smaller necklace ones I'm looking to do. I've seen a coaster made out of them and they looked great, it takes 49 for each coaster though.... may take me a litle while I guess!

Yep, just take small amounts of fibre, roll them up, soak in soapy water and very gently roll them around in your hand. As the fibre tightens and forms a 'skin' you can gradually get firmer and firmer until you have a tight ball/bead. They take a little practice, but once you've got the knack they don't take too long.
