Fabric for making manly aprons ;)

Postby Hannahboo » Mon Oct 17, 2011 2:58 pm

After racking my brains for what to get DH for xmas I have decided to make him up a hamper with a couple of bought presents and some home made bits and pieces. He loves cooking/baking so had thought about making an apron.

I am guessing a heavy fabric would be best for this, but not really sure as not made aprons before. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

You could line cotton, or use Japanese import fabric, which is usually a bit thicker. LA Chakra on eBay has some gorgeous man prints inc. groovy guitars, and this:

Thanks for the patterns. I had just planned on drawing round an old one I have at home :giggle: but will check out the patterns as that would probably be the better option :giggle:

You could save money by making a plain black apron and including a pocket in that fabric :D

I'd recommend Ikea fabrics. Most of them are a nice heavy weight. They wash really well. You can get some masculine style patterns and the best part, they are really cheap....

My DH refuses to wear an apron, but if I do sew him something he prefers denim like fabrics!

I second the idea to make in a manly-sturdy fabric, then use a pattern for the pocket.

My DH never wears one either, but if I make one he WILL wear it :whip: :giggle:
