Best bamboo for inserts/boosters?

Postby Thumper » Thu Jan 26, 2012 9:56 pm

Hi. I've been making my own nappies for a little while now but mainly doing pockets. I've just started an AIO and want to use bamboo. Question is- which type is best? Bamboo terry or fleece or what? When it comes to bamboo I'm stuck. And anyone know where the cheapest place to get it is?
Also- is bamboo velour stay-dry? If I used it for my lining rather than microfleece. It's just so much nicer and prettier and longer lasting.

Thanks!

Bamboo velour isn't stay dry
You need micro fleece, suede cloth or minki for that bit

Not sure whether terry or fleece is better for inserts (my instinct tells me terry)

Bamboo terry is the most absorbent. Bamboo is not stay dry (a fabric can't be both absorbent and stay dry  ) so you will need to use a liner next to baby's skin if that's what you prefer.

I've always used bamboo terry for inserts. Eco Earth was cheapest last time I looked, haven't bought any for ages though.

Whoop thanks. I thought as much. Bamboo as stay dry was a daft notion lol
I usually buy from Eco earth but it looked dearer than others. Is Terry not bulkier than the fleece? Im trying to make a slim fitting AIO. too many fabric choices and not enough money!

Yep, terry is bulkier than fleece, you might not need as many layers though

Which pattern are you using? Just being nosy :giggle: I quite fancy making my own pockets / AIO.

I've made my own. For pockets and AIO. Once I got the easier pockets down the AIO seemed do-able, and it was a lot easier than I thought. Just this dilema about what to use for the fold out booster. I've gone for zorb as the soaker pad sewn in. So I guess it's kind of itti style. It got the poop of aproval today anyway! :giggle:
