Hi ladies i have not been on here in so long as my life has turned into 1 big rollercoaster. I think i posted a while ago when we started weaning DS to say he had dairy allergy which was mildly amusing as his dad is a dairy farmer, he then started vomiting on a daily basis and his eczema got out of control. He then had 3 major vomiting/shock reactions to chicken. We have been to various specialists and he was diagnosed with a rare allergic condition called FPIES (food protein induced enterocolitis). He has just turned 13 months and can only drink a special formula i cried when i had to give up bf at 9 months but i couldn't find which food he was reacting to and my milk was making him sick), we have tried nearly 30 foods and they all make him vomit.

DS had a big reaction to potato today which was scary as he was in his carseat in the car whilst i was opening up the house and he could have choked.

Not really sure why i am posting here but i know many of you have been supportive in the past. The problem is now he is getting older he is starting to ask for foods and i can't give them. Do you have any ideas for keeping him occupied whilst we are eating? Preferably in his highchair as my dd tends to drop food on the floor whilst we are eating and he has been known to hoover bits up and get sick. He is fine with formula, water (obviously) and sugar. Any non food suggestions would be great x

Oh my goodness, this must be terrible to live with. I agree with Sara, what support are you getting from the health professionals? Is this something that he will grow out of?

Oh my! This sounds awful for you and him.

Could you have special interesting toys that are for meals times only so being in the highchair is exciting for him? Perhaps a few that can be rotated? Sensory toys that light up / have interesting textures/ smells he can investigate and be utilising his senses as we all do at meal times? Perhaps treasure baskets might be good. Once the boys are in bed I will dig put some links if you like. And perhaps a cup/bottle of his formula?

Great ideas from Sim. Could you freeze some formula in ice lolly molds and give him an ice lolly to "eat"?

Huge   It just be so hard for both if you xxxx

That's absolutely terrible, poor boy :( I do remember that post from a while ago. PP have suggested some really good ideas, I like the frozen formula lollies idea (can you jelly it for a different texture?) and treasure basket ideas, especially sensory based ones. Presuming he isn't allergic to gelatin / veggie gelatin it might be possible to at least make some finger-food type formula or jelly by using more.

Is there a way of making a soft cheese or yoghurt with formula? That could be something different for him.

ARe there any tests to find out anything he isn't allergic to, so you at least have something to work with?

 it must be so stressful I really hope it is possible to find some food he can eat

Louise :cnthug: I remember your last post about it as well. My goodness it sounds unbelievably difficult for you and him and the whole family, I have never heard of such extreme allergies  I love the idea of doing 'foods' somehow from his formula. I really hope they find some more things that he can eat soon xx
