Having a wobble

Urgh when does things start to settle down? Clara is only 12 days old, I know, but my breasts ache all the time! The right one has a really sore spot that I've tried to massage but it hurts too much to do it for more than a minuet or so! Clara is a one side at a time kinda baby at the moment so I think that's not helping either and they always feel full to bursting!

Awww Bekki, massive  it really is tough in the early weeks. Does the sore spot have a lump at all, or any redness? Do be gentle with your massaging if it is sore, you can also try a hot washer with (or without, just the heat is useful and soothing) gentle massage (honestly no point going really hard and hurting yourself). Massage towards your nipple and gentle circles too. A hot shower can be nice too.

This will settle and within a very short time you won't even notice them!

Please keep asking if you need any help or support

Warm flannels in the bath (coz I'm sure you have so much time for a bath with a new baby +)

It does settle quite quickly but get to the docs if you're heading to mastitis.

No lump or redness and I feel well. It's kinda like when the wire from your bra digs in (definitely not that as I haven't worn an underwire bra since she was born). Going to try a warm flannel once boys are in bed and think I might have to take some paracetamol again. I knew it wouldn't be easy (nothing worthwhile ever is) but I thought once we got the latch right it would be fine! Just have to keep telling myself that if I stop now it will just be even worse!!

Pretty sure I have a blocked duct  burning hot red patch just below the nipple, right where that pain was. Clara is being a nightmare, she slept from 5pm till 12 on Friday night and nothing I could do wakened her! I tried to express a little so I could spoon feed her but got nothing! She had a reasonable feed at midnight then I couldn't get her to feed again till 7am and still didn't express a single drop! Lots of short feeds today but not enough to empty my breast. She's been latched on now for about 90 minuets but she's mainly suckling and not much swallowing. I'm at my wits end with her. 111 won't see her as she's having plenty of wet and dirty nappies and she's content between feeds. I just don't know what's going wrong!

 a pretty stressful time for you both  it's great that she's having wet and dirty nappies. Could she be jaundice? That can make babies sleepy and not feed as often.
Do you have a breastfeeding support team? Are you still with the midwife team? Sounds like you would feel happier if someone came to check latch etc. But not easy on a bank holiday :(
When she won't feed, will stripping her off help?
When mine had jaundice I had to do whatever I could to wake them every 2 hours, this involved stripping them off. I had to set an alarm it was awful but once that went I was cursing every night they then woke every 2 hours :giggle:
I hope it improves soon

She was jaundice but her eyes are clear so don't think that's the case anymore. Yep I stripped her off and even bathed her, she had a moan in her sleep but continued snoozing. But even the short time she was awake she wouldn't latch on at all. Breastfeeding support isn't available at the weekend, I have the HV coming out on Monday but it's hit and miss as to if they have much up to date training in breastfeeding.
