can we all list wht we do for the enviroment ?

Postby babyjjbaby » Fri May 08, 2009 9:52 am

just to see if there is anything else i could be doing i don't do alot and soem times i do more but i find it really hard as my ma is not intrested in being eco friendly
this is what i do
unplug everythign when not being used
don't use the tumble drier
wash at 30c most of teh time
use eco balls and stain sticks most the time
try not to waste the water
recycle but still ahve a black bag every 2 days oor every day mainly every 2 days
use washable nappies of course lol
try not to have the hetaing on as much in carvan
try an dcut down how much we use the car but its been used 4 times this week already but liek last week it only got used twice :-?
try to use reusabel bags

think thats it but when we are in the house i find it easier in way cos i dunno what my dad is liek when i am no there probably leave severythign on just to upset me as i feel liek i am constantly losing teh battle to be eco friendly andits just causing arguments cos i am the only one in our family who intrested in the enviroment

I normally can't remember everything,

But we recycle everything the council takes away on the doorstep (2 bags a week) Try to only use 1 black bag a week of rubbish, sometimes 2
no dryer here, only iron bare minimum
switch things off,
eco lightbulbs
heating is off for 7 to 8 months of the year, bare minimum over the winter
use public transport as much as poss and have a diesel car the most efficent model and it fits lots of people so we can take 1 car instead of 2 or 3 cars.
reuseable bags and try to advoid plastic all the time
reuse clothes / hand me downs
cloth nappies / mooncup & cloth pads

i have a rule that only one peice of electrisity at a time. so if im washing, cant have anything wlse on, one light at a time and nothing else, witch prob sounds crazy but works, so n evening if we have the light on we cant use comp, so board games or books. our bill was £6 for one month so we know its helping the environment. only slow cook something if it will make atleast 2 days of dinner for us all.
cloth nappys obv :giggle:
recycle
compost
selling car soon, we cant not use it ehrn its there
do full washing loads at 30(witch suits me cos i dont have to so it so often!)
energy efficient light bolbs
share a bath
no tv (withc saves us more than anything aswell, no t.v licence, no electrisity, and no pay out for sky or anything like that.)
no tumble dryer
reusebale bags

im sure we could do alot more too, just got to find out about it all.

i wont...i know i'm crap (tho one hell of a lot better than most of my friends and fam...which i think says more about them than about me  )
but i do try

if its easy then i do it (basically) and so many things are nowadays (eco friendly washing powder and dishwasher stuff, same price from simplywashing.co.uk if you buy in bulk...which i usually do anyway..so less packaging again)
only full loads in washing machine and dishwasher, recycle anything the council pick up, buy stuff with minimal packaging in shops, reusable bags , home cooking etc...those sort of easy things...but i couldn't be doing with composting, nor a lot of the friendly cleaning stuff (expensive and rubbish)...

so i try...but know i could do better with a bit of effort.

ps. cloth is fun for me...and i dont think a couple of loads of laundry a week is much effort...but will happliy admit to be mixing cloth and sposies cos i'm not an all or nothing kinda girl, better do a bit and make a bit of a difference than do nothing and just perpetuate the problems of the world.

i suppose i did grow up learning that waste was BAD tho...so re-whatsiting leftovers, hand me downing clothes (accross familys) and fixing rather than chucking has always been normal
